A friend of mine sent me this article she saw on NPR.org, Cupcakes Are Dead. Long Live The Pie .
I have to say that I have been expecting the demise of the cupcake craze for quite a while and it keeps not happening. Perhaps because I have never been particularly excited by cupcakes. But pie... pie I get. (as those who knew me during my first pie project can attest) Seems like it might be time for pie project NG.
I'm inspired by the idea of the mini-pie (also known as hand pie, personal pie, pocket pie, etc.) Kind of a play off of the cupcake as a mini-cake. So I'm starting to experiment. When you start at the beginning with pie, I think of apple. So today I was playing around with some rustic styles of personal apple pie.
Turned out better than I expected really. So I'm thinking about what flavors to try next. I'd love some feedback/ideas from all of you. Do you have a favorite type of pie? Anything that you think makes a piece of pie great vs. avg. ? Any suggestions for what to try next?
The McDonald's apple pie. Yummmmmm. ;-) In all seriousness, these look great. Did you eat them all yourself?!
ReplyDeleteI did manage to stop myself before they were all gone. :) I kept two for my sister and nephew to taste test when the come to visit tomorrow. So Alisa, no flavor requests?

ReplyDeleteGreat idea Charles. Are you thinking Cornish Pastie type or more like a Steak and Mushroom type pie? Have a go to recipe?
