It's been two weeks since went back to work full time and I have to say that I miss my house!
I expected the logistical transition of going to work to be easier on me than on Maisy. But really she seems quite content to spend her days napping in my bedroom. And she is warming up to her dog walker, whom I"m already in love with since she daily leaves me long involved notes about Maisy's well being. Meanwhile I continue to hone the ins and outs of the T. Any suggestions on the best timing for Red Sox game days?
But once I'm home I find myself pretty reluctant to leave. I'm content so far to spend my weekends hanging out at home with the dog, doing some gardening and occasionally cooking something. Last weekend I attempted to start dealing with the lawn "situation". I started trying to dig dandelions out of my lawn and replace them with grass -hopefully crowding out future dandelions with healthy grass. It's what someone on the internet said to do, so it must be true. All I know is holy cow it's a pain to try and dig them out of a lawn and still get up all the root. Here's the lawn half de-dandelioned (right half). You get a sense for how many need pulling.
I figure that the odds of this really working are slim. In reality the lawn is probably at least 40% weeds. Probably I should just get it re-sodded but not quite ready for that investment.
This weekend I acquired some herbs and tomato seedlings. When I got to the Newton Farm my friend Rick had pulled aside some fancy heirloom varieties for me. However since the first words of his description involved being hard to grow, I quickly changed direction on him. "Rick I need ones I can't mess up." So he sent me off with Sun Golds. Turns out they might be cherry tomatoes, and not red. Not my tomato vision exactly. So we may be back to square one with tomatoes except for very fancy tomato box that Alyce talked me into.
Really the toughest part of being back to work, aside from being accountable to someone other than me, is the travel. It's not such a huge amount (1 or 2 nights every other week) but it's a bit of a shock to the system. And boy does Maisy hate going to the kennel. This week I'm off to NYC for Wednesday then to Chicago late that night and back home Thursday late night. I'm tired just thinking about it. Maybe I'll just take a nap...
Hope this doesn't post twice; having technical difficulties. Glad the transition is going well. Maybe you can make a nice salsa with the tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteSorry Maisy doesn't like the kennel; Linus loves going but he's always happy to come home.
I decided to gift the cherry tomato plants to a friend. Now I have to remember to buy the replacements. But I did get the herbs planted in pots on my deck.
