As I start to write this I'm pretty sure that the simple act of writing about Spring will make Winter return with a vengence. It's not even St Patty's yet. But even up here in New England we are getting a little taste to tease us.
The relentless snow has melted off and we have reclaimed the neighborhood sidewalks. Leading to longer but slower dog walks as every tree and plant are suddenly available for sniffing. The local raccoon has even returned to my trash can.
While I've been spending most of my cooking time on pies, I have felt compelled to taste Spring as well. Tracked down some shad roe, a Gage family Spring favorite growing up. And today took a break from pie making altogether, instead braising some lamb shanks. I should probably start looking around for rhubarb for Spring pies too.
The one aspect of Spring I'm really not looking forward to is the new collection of home improvement projects. I am kind of liking the spending moratorium but I see $$$ looming in front of me. I'll put the Spring yard clean up at the top of the list, but there are many that follow it.
Of course I suppose I could ignore them for a bit longer. Until I'm sure Winter is really gone. Or wait and see what kind of life renewal this Spring has in store for me. I definitely have that sense that things are a' changin.
Big blizzard in North Dakota. I think we should be happy that one is going to miss us.
