Late Night Visitor

The first time this happen it scared me to death- a loud noise outside that could wake me from a deep sleep.  The second time around I felt much more zen.  I knew it was just an animal knocking over the trashcan outside.

When I got up in the morning, indeed the trashcan was on its side.  Now as you can see, these are big trashcans.

 

And I on my way out to the trash can I found a little evidence that it was indeed a critter.  Seems he found some chicken in the trash and decided to enjoy it on my steps.

So what kind of critter was it?  Can a raccoon get big enough to knock over a trash can that big?  Do they have 5 toes?  Wonders of nature to ponder.  Looks to me like Wikipedia has provided the answer.
